15 अगस्त 1947 – भारत ने अंग्रेज़ी शासन से स्वतंत्रता प्राप्त की। परंतु क्या आपने कभी सोचा है कि स्वतंत्रता मात्र बाहरी बंधनों से मुक्त होने के साथ हमारे विचारों, जीवनशैली और कर्तव्यों से भी जुड़ी है? आज, जब हम 79वां स्वतंत्रता दिवस मना रहे हैं, एक नवीन प्रश्न सम्मुख है—
“क्या हम पर्यावरणीय प्रदूषण, व्यर्थ उपभोग और संसाधनों की दुरुपयोग से भी स्वतंत्र हैं?”
हम अपने देश भारत और आने वाली पीढ़ियों के लिए कैसा भविष्य छोड़ना चाहते हैं। स्वतंत्रता के समय हमारे पूर्वजों ने हमें एक स्वतंत्र देश दिया, लेकिन अब हमारा कर्तव्य है कि हम स्वच्छ, हरित और सतत भारत छोड़ें। इसके लिए हमें Reuse, Reduce, Recycle का स्वभाव अपनाना होगा।

कानपुर के एक छोटे से नगर में, अंशु अपने दादी के पुराने लकड़ी के सन्दूक के पास बैठा था। दादी उसे स्वतंत्रता संग्राम के किस्से सुना रही थीं— ‘’कैसे लोगों ने स्वदेशी वस्त्र अपनाए, विदेशी वस्त्रों का बहिष्कार किया और हर वस्तु का भरपूर उपयोग किया। ’’
दादी ने कहा,
“बेटा, उस समय हम वस्तुएँ फेंकने के स्थान पर उन्हें नया रूप देते थे। यही हमारी वास्तविक स्वतंत्रता थी—आत्मनिर्भरता की स्वतंत्रता।”
